Caroline Deisler: Colonics, Cryo and Vegan Eats

STATE OF MIND: Episode 7 with Caroline Deisler

In this episode of STATE OF MIND I am talking to the lovely Caroline Deisler. Caroline is an ex-model turned Instagrammer and she’s been a passionate Vegan for 4 years and was vegetarian before that.

The reason I wanted to get Caroline on the podcast is because being a trainee nutritionist myself, and a passionate foodie, I am fascinated by what people eat. By most people’s standards Caroline’s lifestyle and her food choices are very extreme, although the more and more she talks about it the more normal it feels. As you’ll hear in this episode Caroline is basically a Fruitarian although she does deviate from her fruity faves at dinnertime when she cooks a big veggie meal.

I was keen to know how she sustains this type of lifestyle, not only for herself but for those around her; how does it work alongside her non-vegan fiancée or when she’s travelling and socialising? These are all things we cover in this episode along with some more less-talked about topics like colonic irrigation and cryo therapy.

I think what’s important to remember is that everyone is free to make their own choices. There is so much in the media these days from high profile nutritionists about how all these wellness trends actually mean nothing. That celery juice is 95% water and so can’t really be beneficial to our health, that intermittent fasting is unproven and dangerous, that eating too much sugar is bad for you, that it’s hard to get all the nutrients you need on a vegan diet…etcetera etcetera. Well, of course their opinion is valid but what I think is even more valid is how what you do and what you eat makes you feel, not anyone else, just you. If eating a raw vegan diet is your jam, then go for it, just make sure you’re aware of the nutrients you need to be getting daily.

Caroline and I sit on very opposite sides of the fence when it comes to sugar intakes, for example, but I can totally appreciate that for her body a high fruit diet might work really well. What’s important is that you find what works for you, and not just follow what someone else is doing on social media.

Caroline’s journey is very inspiring, and she’s found a way to make food work for her that keeps her happy mentally and happy in her own skin too. Her confidence radiates out through her Instagram posts, and she’s one of the most positive people I know. What I took away from this episode is that food should make us happy, that it should be a celebration and a joy, not something we’re slaves to.

As ever I asked Caroline three questions to finish:

What’s one thing you would do again if you could?

Two things. Probably going to New York by myself when I was 19 – I didn’t know anyone and I was completely by myself and it really helped me to grow. The second thing would be to study nutrition again because it was so eye opening for me.

What’s one thing you would change if you could?

I would make healthy eating less expensive and more accessible, and make plant based eating more glowing, fun and accessible.

What does STATE OF MIND mean to you?

It means being a ease with myself, being balanced and nourishing my body from the inside. From that place everything else can follow. Be grateful and respectful for everyone and everything in your life.
