Why We're Plant Based

It was World Vegan Day last week, and what an important day that was. Yes being vegan is trendy, yes it means you can legit Instagram your chickpeas and yes, feel free to #eattherainbow. But despite being uber cool, going plant based is something we feel passionately about here at CPRESS and here’s why:

Shockingly, just 1 in 4 adults eat their 5 day[1] and we shudder to think how much of people’s diets is also processed and refined produce. Making sure that you fill your plate to the brim with a rainbow of food is a sure fire way to make sure you’re getting all those essential vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and other goodies. If you can, or if you want to, try going plant based for a couple of days a week or have a few days where you reduce your consumption of animal products. If you’re eating really high quantities of animal protein then you could be applying excess pressure to your already tired out detoxification systems, and that includes your post-work out whey protein shake. Try hemp or pea protein as great alternatives. You can also easily and effectively target specific nutrients by eating a plant-based diet: pumpkin seeds are amazing for zinc, raw cacao is super high in magnesium, flax is a great source of Omega 3 fatty acids, and so on…

We are only just beginning to scratch the surface of the endless possibilities that plants offer to a cunning chef. It’s amazing just how well cashews can actually make cheese, butternut squash as a replacement for noodles, coconut yoghurt as frosting for cakes, flax eggs, chia eggs, aqua fava from chickpeas can hold a cake batter together…there is really no end to what you can do. Let’s be real for a second too, vegetables are so tasty and prepared innovatively they can really elevate a dish. Try roasting your sweet potato with a touch of cinnamon and cumin or making a salad from sweet nectarines, roasted red peppers and a balsamic glaze…Personally we are obsessed with our buckwheat falafels, turmeric hummus and matcha bounty bites.

We are making every effort at CPRESS to be more conscious consumers. You can read about that here. It’s come to light recently that eating a plant-based diet is the single most effective thing you can do to help climate change and that in developed nations like the UK and US the need for a change to a plant based way of eating is even more crucial, as we are such heavy consumers of animal produce. The new research shows that without meat and dairy consumption, global farmland use could be reduced by more than 75%.[2] We don’t like to ‘push’ one particular diet on our customers, instead we focus on making our food super delicious and nourishing so that you can enjoy the power of plants without feeling like you’re missing out.

Our founder discovered what it felt like to eat less meat and dairy when he moved abroad to Asia, and the difference it made to the way he felt was revolutionary; and so CPRESS was born. We challenge you include more of a variety of vegetables into your diet for one whole week and you’ll almost certainly feel better for it. Vegetables and fruit are great for our gut health too; we need to nurture and feed our microbiome a wide range of foods in order to keep our immune system working optimally, our hormones firing at the right levels and that all important gut-brain connection that keeps us feeling happy and balanced.

So there you have it, 4 simple reason why we pick plants. DO YOU?
